Swarm of earthquakes under Lake Taupo

Lake Taupo

From the 28 to 30th of May, a swarm of small earthquakes occurred in the southern part of Lake Taupo. Twenty-seven earthquakes occurred and all at shallow depths of less than 10 km. The earthquakes ranged in magnitude from 1,7 to 2.4.

Swarms like this point to movements on small faults in the the lake and are not thought to be related to volcanic activity.
